My dad took me to my second national event ever and boy was this the biggest event I've been to so far, 300+ motos for the Saturday race. That is more then we had at Circle City Nationals .
When we got there Friday early A.M the skies opened up and it started to rain so I was worried that I might not get any practice gates . Fortunatly the track has a slurry and the gate had plenty of grip so we had no problems getting in some pratice gates . I was a bit taken back byt the size of the start hill but with some encouraging words from my dad I gated up and rolled in for the first attempt to feel the track out . By my 3rd gate I was pedaling down the hill keeping up with the rest of the gate having a blast and enjoying how fast the track is , but the size of the hill still had me a tad nervious. That nerviousness came back and bit me in the butt Friday afternoon in my 2nd moto keeping me from getting the transfer. I was disappointed but determined to redeem myself at Satudays race.
Saturday morning I woke up with a determination to get back out there and show Rock Hill the rider I really am . We read the moto sheets and we has a 7 rider gate , taking 3-3 . I went up for my moto looking to tranfer out in the 1st moto by being one of the first 3 riders to cross the finish . I was battling it out with 2nd but felt confident with the 3 spot to make the transfer and we did or so we thought. After the 1st moto we were happy to have made the main and I spent the rest of the morinig hanging out with my team mates having fun and rest up fo the main. My moto that day was 114 , well it was moto 220+ whem we had recieved that news that they had reposted the moto sheets and we did not know about it , they ended up only taking 2 from the 1st moto and by the time we found that out we had missed our 2nd chance by 120 motos . I was devastated to say the least . We packed up for the evening soaking in the important lesson of re check the moto sheets even if you never hear any announcement.
Sunday , day 3 and I am more determined then ever to podium today . The rider count had dropped and we only 4 riders on the gate , taking 1-2 . My plan was to tranfer in the first moto but I just couldn't quite make it , Skylar Parsons just edge me out by a bike length. I felt confident going into my 2nd moto that I would get the transfer , and I did ! Here I was standing in staging waiting to be called into the chutes for the main , my dad kept talking to me telling me how proud he was of me and some other race stuff that I can't remember because I was so excited and nerviuos to have made it to the main . There I was sitting on the gate, a rider in the previous moto went down so we had to wait a moment while they cleared the track . I heard "here we go" and then the cadence started , I stood up and got ready . The gate dropped and I pedaled , we were pretty much neck and neck down the first straight . In the first turn I took advantage of the inside line and stayed low putting myself in 2nd place but Skylar was putting the pressure on me the whole time . We came out of the last turn to the finish and I had to give one last push to keep Skylar behind me by the narrowest of margins . I could hear my friends down the first straight cheering me on and my dad on the gate on the 4th straight yelling "he's right behind you" . I was so happy that I had made 2nd at my 2nd national event . I can't tell you how much fun I had riding the track at Rock Hill .
We will now be prepairing for the Music City National at the end of May 2016 . I'd like to thank team Fire Dragon for having me on their team and believing in me. A big thanks to all the sposors , J&R Bikes ,Answer and Black Crown.
