I have competed in 3 State qualifiers. Scored a 3rd in my first ever state race at Billerica BMX. The next stop was at Wakefield BMX where I took a second place for the day. Again, a great day of racing, hanging out with friends new and old, and to be able to race on a track with such a history and back ground. I was goofing off and jumping at this track since the mid 80's.
Had great competition this day and the racing, very fast. On this day I had to qualify in. 3 motos. 1-1-1 to the mains. There were 4 of us in this class on this day. My first moto was intense, coming out of the gate and barraling down the first straight, into the first turn, almost being put over the top of the berm. But, held on and did all I could to power the rest of the track. I was not able to pass the lead rider but I was able to keep the other two behind me.
Second moto, 3 on the gate, gate drops, again hammering down the first straight into the first turn. I was passed by one racer so I had to play the game of chase. SO I kept this rider within striking distance. He made a slight mistake gong into the 3rd turn. He went into the turn low to high, but I went in high and cut down low. I was able to use this move to pass him and I pumped the rythem for all I could and took the transfer to the main.
Mains. 3 of us on the gate, and it drops. crazy first straight and one rider passes me and again, the game of chase. this time I was unable to pass this rider. But I did finish in 2nd for the day. placed better than my first State qualifier.
On to the last qualifying round before the finals. This Race was held at Cape Cod Bmx. A great facility, on a military base. Weather as a little scary. Possible rain and storms for the day. But the races did carry on, as the weather did hold off, with the exception of a shower that did roll through but it did not dampen the day. This days race was a total points race(just like the first race I had done). When I was my turn up at the gate we lined up and the cadence started. Gate drops and off we go. Lots of pedaling and pumping, being its one of the longer tracks here.
After my 2 motos and a great run in the mains. points were tallied and I scored my first win. very excited. Now I wait for finals. Hotel is booked. Days are taken off from work. and all other plans are set in motion. I am hopinh to have a great showing at the finals. I currently sit in 4th in the state standings. 5 points separateme from 1st, but only 1 point behind 3rd place and 2 points behind second. So if I have a great race that day I could end up witnh a state plate OR fall just short. I have been eating better, training on my bike more and more. I plan on trying my best.
See you at the state finals.......
