I used to race for DreamBMX.com/Fly before my big bail years ago. It was started by Mike "Dream" Weaver. A good friend and more than worthy adversay on the track. In fact, he beat me most of the time! LOL Mike, along with a few others on the team were NAG number holders--we had some heavy hitters that were all local folks from the Black Hills of South Dakota. He asked me to join the team and of course I jumped at the chance. I knew everyone and all members were outstanding stewards of our sport. We were all friends and knew the moms and dads--everyone's families really. It was a really great group of folks. Mike's philosoply was simple--do your best but HAVE FUN. If you won, great. If you didn't, try again next time--just give it your absolute best. If you were school age you had to also maintain a respectable GPA. His philosophy was so very simple yet something to apply to everyday life. This was one of the main reasons I was over the moon when asked to join. This group respresented all of the good things in racing bmx as well as everyday life. I left the sport after my injury, other team members went off to college, some recived factory rides and Mike moved on to Arizona to pursue life and gainful employment. Needless to say DreamBMX.com was put on a shelf to gather dust and was destined to become a fond memory.
Fast forward to this summer. I have been in contact with Mike on a regular basis (friends first.) He thought I was crazy to start racing again as we are not getting any younger but is living vicariously through me with regards to racing. I brought up the thought to start the team again. He was all for it. In fact, he told to me to contact Gordon Hopperdietzel. His two daughters were on the team when were were going strong and they were a force to be reckoned with. The girls have grown up and moved on but Gordon was still in contact with our sponsor from years back. I called Gordon of course and it was as though I had spoke to him a few weeks ago. I told him of the idea and he was all over it. We were all excited about this. So to cut this long story a little short, here we are, just me and one other rider at the moment. His name is Taryn Dodson. A fast 14yr old who just became an expert. This young man fits the ideal of DreamBMX.com. He is very approachable, smart and a good steward for the sport. I hope to expand the team to four or five riders before the season ends so we will have a strong showing locally to start next season.
We're excited you want to ride with us! If you are a new rider, welcome to the family! If you are experienced, we are glad to have you back. Please select below:
