Catch up with Justin Posey

USA BMX: So Justin, you escaped the desert heat in Phoenix, where have you been spending your time this past week?

Posey- I took a trip home to my hometown in Winston-Salem, NC to spend some time with my family. I was able to see my parents, sister, and my wonderful niece. Played some golf, went to the lake, and got to ride bikes at the Riveter Bike Park up in Asheville, NC. It was a great, relaxing trip.

USA BMX: It looked like you had the chance to meet up with the Mongoose family as well, who did you meet up with and what did you guys get up to?

Posey: Team Manager Leigh Ramsdell, BMX racer Mason Hayes, and Freestyle BMXer Nikita Ducarroz. It was a blast getting to mingle and ride with other athletes and people related to such an awesome company. The bike park is next level and loved being able to ride the Mongoose Fireball Dirt Jumper.

USA BMX: We know Mason Hayes from the National Scene and his work with you and the foundation, tell us a little bit about Nikita Ducarroz and Leigh Ramsdell and how they are involved with Mongoose.

Posey: Leigh is the Team Manager for the entire Mongoose Bicycles brand. He is in charge of BMX and MTB athletes. There are a lot of additional things he does for the brand, but he is such a fun guy to hang out with. We are both from the Carolinas and everytime we get together, we have a blast hanging out and joking around. Nikita is a Professional Freestyle BMX rider for Mongoose and is absolutely killing it! She is such a fun, kind hearted, rad chick that loves riding her bike. It was good getting to know her more and learn about her journey and her pursuit of making the Olympic BMX Freestyle team! She was showing us all around the bike park and how to shred!

USA BMX: Being on the Mongoose team, what is it like having teammates from multiple disciplines of cycling?

Posey: Honestly it's great because the cultures are different, but everyone just loves bikes. So we can joke, have fun, talk about jumps and lines we want to hit, and mingle like we've known each other for years. It gives you a new level of respect for other disciplines of cycling.

USA BMX: We know Mason Hayes from the National Scene and his work with you and the foundation, what does it mean to you to see this young racer get support from a brand with a deep history in BMX and world-class athletes to learn from?

Posey: It is very well deserved. I can't say enough great things about this kid. Not only is he a great bike rider, but he is such a fun, and kind kid. He reminds me of myself when I was younger as far as always trying to hit new jumps, working hard on and off the bike, well rounded (he can scuba dive, kayak, play basketball, get straight A's) and also uses his manors and picks up and helps his fellow competitors when they are down. He has the backing of a brand like Mongoose for the person he is and will continue to do great things for the company on and off the bike!

USA BMX: Outside of riding, what is the common topic of discussion when the Mongoose team gets together?

Posey: Bikes, more bikes, new bikes, etc. Haha no we talk about other things like places we've been, things we've learned, learning about people's past, and how awesome bicycles are. We may or may not have done some pull ups for some free food as well haha!

USA BMX: What can we look forward to seeing from Mongoose in the coming months?

Posey: You will see riders going out and having fun, doing their best, and representing the brand to the fullest. They will continue to come out with more bikes, expand programming, and continue to support the cycling community to the best of their abilities. With great people behind the brand, awesome representation of the brand, the company will continue to grow on and off the track! I am so lucky to be a part of it!
