The USA BMX concussion policy requires written clearance that the athlete is cleared to resume participation in the sport of bicycle motocross if the rider will be returning to competition. In order to maintain compliance with policy, USA BMX request that the healthcare provider utilize the Return To Competition Clearance Form in granting medical clearance to return to competition.
It is the rider’s/parent’s responsibility to ensure that the rider is medically cleared before returning to racing, training or any other activities. Such medical clearance should be provided to USA BMX via the Return To Competition Clearance Form.
While this form does not presume to dictate to professionals how to practice medicine, the guidelines for return to competition from a concussion do represent consensus expert opinion from national and world leaders in sport concussion management. The components of this form are intended to address concerns of parents, athletes, team managers, coaches and health care professionals regarding written clearance from a health care professional for a concussed athlete to return to competition.
