Richfield Park BMX News

  • Austin Kelly takes on Track Operator Position at RPBMX

At the end of last years racing season, I brought to the attention to our volunteers at Richfield Park BMX that I was passing the torch of Track Operator any of the volunteers that may be interested.  After holding the position on and off over the past 20 years I felt it was time for new blood to step forward and take on the responsibilites that come with the title.  Austin Kelly, who is a very skilled racer, has taken on the challenge.  I, along with the rest of our volunteers...

  • Still time to get in the single point races with a Chili Cookoff race included

What a crazy racing season it has been.  From the very start to this very day I know every track has been jumping through Mother Natures tantrums this year.  Starting off the year with the Covid-19 Corona virus that shut just about every bmx track across the nation down to the current crazy weather patterns.  At Richfield Park BMX, we started our race season nearly 2 months late.   The late start put us 8 races in the whole and caused us to bite the bullet an reschedu...

  • Rained out SCR rescheduled to Sunday August 16th

Our rescheduled SCR was rained out. Due to an excessive storm system beginning on Saturday night August 1st and continuing until 6:00 pm on Sunday August 2nd our crew at Richfield Park BMX called a rain out at 7:00 am Sunday morning prior to opening our registration for the SCR.   We did so as we knew from checking the forecast that the race would not have been possible.  The weather conditions were such that shortly after the rain stopped at 6:00 pm it returned and continue...

  • Sunday July 5th race canceled.

All but one of our track volunteers will be at the Stars and Stripes National on Sunday July 5th.  Please pass along the information that we have canceled our race for that Sunday.  Their could possibly be a gate practice.  We will post notice in the event we schedule for a gate practice on the 5th.  Have a safe and fun July 4th weekend.  If your racing, best of luck and Keep the Rubber Side Down.

  • Racing is a go at Richfield Park BMX

Opening Day of Racing begins this Sunday June 14th at Richfield Park BMX.      We been patient and workingdiligently to dial in the rebuilt sections of straights 2 and 3 during the Covid-19 virus shut down of every bmx track in America.  Finally, the day has come and we will be ready for all racers arrival this coming Sunday.  The weather outlook is forecast to be perfect to be on the metal race steed and be ready for the gate to drop.  Tune up the bike and...

  • SCR rescheduled - Track still closed due to Covid-19 virus

Here at Richfield Park BMX, our track is still shut down to all bike activity until the State of Michigan ends the Social distancing Stay home Stay safe executive order.  The only track allowed to restart it's race season it GTC BMX in Traverse City.  Their area has not been hit as severely as the southern portion of the Lower Penninsula.  Hence, they have been given the thumbs up to begin their race season using social distancing criteria in an effort to prevent the spread...

  • Race and practice update - Covid-19

The race season at Richfield Park BMX will hopefully return for the usual on track competition ASAP.  But, like the rest of the country, our track is currently in a holding phase until the Covid-19 virus statistics begin to show a downward phase for those that are contracting the virus.  We surely are as anxious as all our bmx families and racers to get on the track and get in some laps and feel the adrenaline rush racing provides.  However, we are a part of the Genesee County ...

  • October 27th race is a Rain out

Our scheduled race for today had been rained out.  We look forward to seeing you at our remaining gate practice sessions.  This time of year our track conditions depend on the weather conditions.  Winter is approaching and we continue to keep gate practice in our schedule for those that want to keep their gate starts as fast as possible.  The Grand National Race is but a month away and gate starts play a big role in how well one can do at the big dance of BMX.  Keep t...

  • Richfield Park BMX track rebuild 95% complete - Race this Sunday Oct. 27th

With some great weather and a group of volunteers putting in extra effort, the reshaping and rebuilding of our 2nd and 3rd straights was accomplished without having to deal with rain.  The only downside of the accomplishment is that we had to cancel our Sunday race to finish up the third straight.  Quite often riders would say that our third straight was an uphill battle.  Well, I don't think we will be hearing those words from now on.  Our changes began with raising t...
